The field of Intimacy and Desire is seamless but not featureless. The field is always moving toward greater intimacy. We are each unique features of the larger field of Intimacy and Desire. That means we are each a unique configuration of Intimacy and Desire that is part of this larger field.
At this pivotal moment in human history, as we are poised between utopia and dystopia, the field itself is generating a new structure of intimacy. This is the emergence of a new structure of human relationship, beyond the “success story narrative” that is rooted in rivalrous conflict governed by win lose metrics. This new configuration of collective human intimacy is what we have called Unique Self Symphony. To move beyond your coiled and contracted ego self, join the larger field and play your instrument in the Unique Self Symphony, you must be willing to take your Unique Risk.
The field is always moving toward greater intimacy. There’s a direction to the field. There’s Telos to evolution. There are plotlines to the story.
Evolution is moving towards ever greater coherence. But not just that, it’s moving towards more intimacy, towards more “intimate coherence.” Intimacy means more contact; it means separate parts becoming larger wholes. It means that more and more love is the yearning of the field itself.
What drives evolution?
Love and Eros drive evolution. But it’s a particular face of Love and Eros, which is Desire.
Desire drives evolution. This is very important in the New Story. In the old story of spirituality, we would talk about the field being a field of consciousness. We call that True Self. This is the knowledge that I’m not just separate from the field, I’m one with the field. The nature of the field is consciousness. And my Separate Self yearns to awaken from its sleep and remember its identity with the one consciousness that animated all of reality. That is our early understanding of Self, what we called True Self.
We’re now deepening what True Self means. We’re realizing that True Self is the portal to Unique Self. We realize that the field is seamless, but not featureless. We are each a unique feature of the field. And what drives the field, is the same thing that drives me most personally. Because I participate directly in the field. .
“I’m driven towards more and more intimacy, more and more contact, more and more shared identity, more and more impact. I want to impact on you; I want you to impact on me. I want to touch your heart, I want you to touch my heart. I want to touch you politically and morally and existentially and psychologically and spiritually, and physically in all the ways that are sacred.”
What drives the field and what drives each of us, is the desire for more contact, the desire for more and more intimacy, the desire for wider and deeper shared identities.
It is not just an abstract movement of the field. It’s a raw, pulsing, throbbing desire that drives the whole field towards ever-greater intimacy. Reality is Eros and that Eros lives not only in the field, but in all of us. For we are - our most core identity is - a unique expression of the field itself.
The same desire that drives subatomic particles to move from separate parts into larger wholes, moves us. That movement, that allurement brings the subatomic particles together. That desire is the same desire that moves you and me.
Evolution has a plotline. Evolution has a vector. Evolution’s not just the measurable movement from simplicity to complexity. Evolution is not systems theory, that’s rooted in exteriors - in “its”. Evolution is no less about interiors.
Reality’s moving not just to more complexity - rather more complexity means more “Intimate Coherence” and “Coherent Intimacy.” Reality’s moving towards intimate coherence and evermore coherent intimacy.
That movement of Reality is alive in me. That’s who I am. When I awaken to that truth of interior science, then for the first time I know - in the very flesh of my flesh and heart of my heart - that it’s ONE Kosmos. It’s one world, one love, one heart. We’re each unique configurations of intimacy and desire, which is part of this larger field. That means that for the first time, we can be at home in the Kosmos.
Our job is not to move past our ego. Of course, we don’t want to be identified with our ego but in relationship to our ego. But it’s much deeper than that. The goal of transformation is not only to disidentify with our exclusive identification with ego, it is to align with the evolutionary impulse. But not just the evolutionary impulse in an abstract impersonal and Kosmic sort of way. Rather we align with the personal face of the evolutionary impulse that’s awake and alive in me.
The Universe is always saying, “tell me who you are and LIVE.”
So, imagine if someone puts a .357 Magnum to your head and says: “Tell me who you are and LIVE”, what do we say?
What is the answer to the question: “Who are you?”
Who am I?
"I am a unique configuration of intimacy and desire, who is needed by All‑That‑Is. Intimacy and desire pulse in me uniquely. I reach to create unique wholes, which emerge from my unique gift, my unique way of being in the world.
I am a unique configuration of intimacy and desire, and I am moved by the same intimacy and desire that moves the larger field. The evolutionary impulse – which is the progressive movement towards more and more wholeness, more and more intimacy, more and more coherent intimacy, more and more intimate coherence – is awake and alive in me.
The desire of evolution lives in me. I am evolution and evolution is me.”
